BECOME A REGULAR OR ASSOCIATE MEMBER

ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP RESTRICTIONS.  The following restrictions apply for those accepted as associate members:

a. Associate members may not hold elective office;

b. Associate members may not cast votes in matters regarding the election of officers or membership applications.  Associate members will be permitted to cast votes per the discretion of the Detachment Commandant on matters regarding Detachment affairs, provided such matters do not impact a policy of the Marine Corps League;

c. Associate members may not wear the Marine Corps cover device, the Marine Corps League collar ornaments, or blazer crest on any uniform item.  A distinctive Marine Corps League associate member cap device may be purchased and worn on the cover.

MEMBERSHIP DUES. Annual Smoky Mountain Detachment membership dues as of 2008/2009 is $40 for new members and $35 for renewals, payable at the time a regular or associate membership application is submitted.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE.  Those eligible and interested in becoming a regular or associate member should complete the membership application.  The application is interactive and will permit users to type all necessary information directly onto the application.  The application should then be printed, signed and mailed, along with the necessary supporting documentation and annual membership dues to:

APPLICATION REVIEW. The Smoky Mountain Detachment Sr. Vice Commandant will review all membership applications and supporting documents and advise applicants as to the date, time, and location of the next general meeting. At the next general meeting, all applicants will be introduced to the membership and will be permitted to remain at the meeting as visitors. At the point in the meeting where membership applications are reviewed and voted on by the membership, applicants will be dismissed from the meeting to preserve the integrity and confidentiality of the voting process. Following this process, applicants will be asked to return to the meeting and will be informed as to the results of their application. Those denied membership will receive a full refund of their membership dues that were provided with their application.
