Opening ceremonies: Flag salute
and invocation
Introduction of special guest:
Major General Higginbotham.
The General’s background spans 33 years
of active duty from his days as company commander
at Dong Ha Viet Nam , to the Pentagon. He shared
some insights of what the Marines are facing today
in Iraq. He has recently relocated to Cashiers
and is enjoying life here in North Carolina. He
also joined the Detachment.
Paymaster’s Report:
The minutes and paymaster’s reports were
read and approved.
Report of member or member’s family
sick or in destress:
>The Chaplain’s member status report
included the loss of member Harry Duke. His funeral
was attended by members of the detachment and
a Color Guard was provided. A Bible was given
to his family from the Detachment.
>Milton Snipes was reported as being in poor
health.
>Joe Pippio was having some check up tests.
Old business:
>Notes on the North Carolina State meeting
will be forthcoming as soon as they are posted
on the state website.
>Lee will be contacting Harold Corbin concerning
the turkey shoot.
>The swearing in of Officers will be at the
next meeting.
New business:
>Lee will contact the American Legion’s
Commander Elliot of the VFW about Memorial Day
involvement.
>We will be setting flags on Saturday preceding
Memorial Day at Woodlawn and Highlands.
>Dennis Vinson will contact the Relay for Life
as to the Color Guard Status for this year
>Cook Out at Randy’s Place on May 22nd
Saturday at 2 P M. (see right for maps information)
>Lee asked for volunteers to help a former
Marine member of his Church.
>Volunteers are needed for the burial detail.
